Assignment 5 Schedule & Due Dates

First the news you've all been waiting for: The new due date is Tuesday 12/19 by 4:00pm.

Here is the schedule for showing me your working shell and train simulator and when you can do the real train:

For the sessions in the computer lab there will be TWO signup lists, the first to check the Shell and simulator, the other to run the train. ONLY when you are ready, please sign your name on one of the lists, and I will call you over to do the demo or the train. Remember I have to sign off on your shell and simulator BEFORE you can sign up for the train.

Deadline Extended for Assignment 4

Due to popular demand, I will extend the due date on Assignment 4 from Thursday 11/16 to Friday 11/17 at 11:50PM.

No further extension is possible as I will post the solution code soon thereafter. We will still go over assignment 5 Thursday in class - DON'T MISS THIS CLASS! I will be demonstrating the train simulator, which reading the slides will not give you.

Hint 2 for assignment 3

Many of you have forgotten how to shift and mask values, i.e. how to split the isr address into two parts:

idt[intr_no].offset_0_15 = (unsigned) isr & 0xffff;
idt[intr_no].offset_16_31 = ((unsigned) isr >> 16) & 0xffff;

Assignment 3 extended till Nov 2 - Special Help Time

The due date for assignment 3 is extended to November 2 (Thursday). Dr. Cheng will be teaching Tuesday 10/31 and I will be teaching Thursday 11/2 when you will get assignment 4.

Hint on assignment 3 - while you are activating the inter-process communications you will not be writing any code that calls it or any of send, message, receive, or reply. (At least not until assignment 4).

I will be available Tuesday 10/31 from 10:00am - 2:00pm in my office and the CS Lab (sci255 /sci254)

Assignment 3 available

Assignment 3 is now posted (a little early). Make sure you download the new ipc.c file specified on the assignment page. You are encourged to use the code that you have developed to date, but if you run into problems you may want to use the the solutions provided.

The slides for this assignment will be posted tomorrow evening. Please make use of them and of the Discussion Board. Code should be well commented and all work should be your own.

After this assignment we will be working on timer service routines and serial communication, after which we will be doing the train!
